Mr. Roger Liao joined Acer Technology Ventures (ATV) in late 1998 and became a General Partner of ATV America in 2000. Currently, he is also a Partner at iD Ventures America.
Mr. Liao started his career as a Design Engineer at Sharp, STC Computer Research Corporation and Ungermann-Bass, and he soon became a two-time entrepreneur. In 1985, he co-founded a PC design and manufacturing company, with customers that included PC Limited (now Dell Computer), and in 1990, he co-founded Axik Computer, a consistent Best Buy and Editor's Choice Awards winner by many leading magazines. Under his leadership, the company established its reputation and was able to enjoy the market's acceptance through its outstanding price/performance and services offerings. PC World Magazine even proclaimed that "every company starts small and one of the ways a small company achieves the kind of universal recognition that firms like Dell and Compaq enjoy is by making a solid product at a fair price. If Axik keeps up the good work, household-name status could be just around the corner."
Mr. Liao then served as Business Consultant before becoming the head of the U.S. operation of Acer Neweb Corp, Acer's wireless communication business unit. Currently, Mr. Liao is involved with several companies either as a board director or advisor, especially in cross-border businesses between Taiwan, China and the U.S. His main interests are in areas such as semiconductors, display technology, broadband communications, wireless Internet, and nanotechnology. His vast experience covers engineering, manufacturing, business strategy and development, sales and marketing, as well as venture investment.
In his spare time, Mr. Liao has been involved with several high-tech, non-profit organizations and has been an active participant of other community services. He has been a speaker, mentor, business plan judge, advisor, and board member of both non-profit organizations and profit institutions. He received his BSEE degree from National Taiwan University and MSEE degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York.
